Registrar Lock is a security feature that prevents unauthorized or unintended domain transfers. In most cases, Registrar Lock is enabled by default, so first thing it must be disabled on the side of your current Registrar.
You have to wait at least 60 days from the registration date before transferring your domain. Additionally, domains cannot be transferred within a 60-day period after previous transfer (see ICANN's 'Policy on Transfer of Registrations Between Registrars').
If your domain transfer has failed due to this error, please make sure that:
- The domain was not created or transferred within past 60 days;
- Registrar Lock is disabled. Domain status in WHOIS should be changed from ‘ClientTransferProhibited’ to ‘OK’.
You may check the current domain status with the help of Namecheap Whois Search tool.
Once you have confirmed the above criteria, you may resubmit the transfer.
Refund information
All Namecheap transfers are risk-free. In case of transfer failure, a full refund will be issued to your Namecheap account balance. This information can be found in your Namecheap account Dashboard.
Once all modifications are made and the domain name is prepared for transfer, you may resubmit the transfer at
Domain Transfer page. If you have a credit card or PayPal as a default payment method, make sure you change it to 'Account Funds' in 'Edit Order Details > Change Payment Details' menu before clicking 'Pay Now'.
If you paid for the transfer with a credit card or PayPal and no longer wish to transfer your domain, our Support Team will gladly assist in refunding your payment to the initial source of payment.
