What is an IPS tag? Transfer of .UK / .CO.UK / .ORG.UK / .ME.UK domains

An IPS tag is the label that applies to any Registrar that registers .UK domains. While there’s no Auth/EPP code for these domains, an IPS tag change is required to transfer .UK domain names from one Registrar to another.

If you would like to transfer a .UK domain to Namecheap, you must request that your current Registrar to unlock the domain (if applicable) and change the IPS tag to NAMECHEAP-INC before placing the transfer request.

If you wish to transfer a .UK domain from Namecheap, you must unlock the domain and change the IPS tag to the one held by the new Registrar by following these steps:
  • Sign in to your Namecheap account.
  • Go to Domain List.
  • Click Manage next to the domain you want to transfer out.
  • Go to the Sharing & Transfer tab.
  • In the Transfer Out section, search for the Domain Lock line and click on the UNLOCK.
  • Click Change.
  • Complete the form and click Save Changes.

Please allow 24 hours for the changes to take effect.

If you have any issues with updating the IPS tag, feel free to contact our support team.

NOTE: If you are not sure about your IPS tag, you can find more information at http://www.nominet.uk/registrar-list/ or contact your new registrar.
