The .MY domain is a unique Malaysian TLD that can now be registered by individuals and businesses worldwide.
Note: the registry restricted all registrations of .MY domains by entities or individuals in Israel.
Certain words or phrases are forbidden in .MY domains. The registry has a list of sensitive and reserved names:
1. Sensitive names — words that may be considered scandalous, obscene, offensive, indecent, and/or contrary to Malaysian public norms (words that are associated with sex, gambling, profanity, racial slurs, and terrorism).
2. Reserved names — specific keywords forbidden by the registry that can’t be used when registering a domain at Namecheap:
- Country names (full country names, like australia.my, are not permitted. But combinations, like australiacoffee.my, are).
- Malaysian state names (eg. kualalumpur, penang, malacca).
- Malaysia government terms (eg. gov, government, primeminister, parliament).
- Royal names relating to the Malaysian royal family (eg. king, agong, sultan, raja, royal, prince).
- Religious names (eg. islam, buddha, hindu, christianity).
- Bank or finance company terms (eg. bank, insurance, takaful, finance, financial, forex).
- Geographical names (who, nato, un).
Domain names that have restricted/sensitive keywords are manually approved by the Malaysian registry. The review period may take several business days from the initial order date. Also be aware of false-positive cases when a prohibited keyword is a part of a word/phrase in your domain (e.g. alphabet.my). These domains will undergo manual review too.
