EasyWP MalwareGuardian
WordPress is the go-to platform for building stunning websites, whether it's a blog, an online store, or a portfolio. However, every open-source plugin or theme you install could be a potential gateway for cyberattacks due to the widespread use and open-source nature of the software. This is why having an anti-malware solution in your hosting environment is crucial for maintaining the security and integrity of your website.
This level of protection is ensured by the tool called MalwareGuardian.
How does MalwareGuardian work?
With automated scans running every 2 hours, MalwareGuardian continuously monitors your website for a wide range of threats, including web shells, adware, phishing attacks, mailers, uploaders, and other malicious activities.
MalwareGuardian is already integrated by default for all EasyWP plans. You can find the tool in the Security tab of the EasyWP Dashboard:
MalwareGuardian runs quietly in the background, ensuring it doesn’t interfere with your website’s performance. It helps identify threats before they cause significant damage, such as data breaches or website downtime. As a result, this enhances your search engine rankings, prevents financial loss, and helps maintain a positive reputation for your website.
As part of the Starter plan, it is designed to provide a high-level overview of your account’s security status by identifying the general presence of potential threats.
If you’re looking for more than just a high-level overview, we recommend you to consider advanced features included in our Turbo/Supersonic packages:
Automatic Protection: no manual actions needed — threats are neutralized as soon as they’re identified. Malicious files are automatically quarantined, compromised files are cleaned by removing malicious code and restored.
Potential Risk Identification: be informed about any files, applications, or system vulnerabilities that could pose a threat. Vulnerable, suspicious files or PUA are flagged for your review and decision on the necessary actions.
In-Depth Reports: access detailed analyses of identified threats and actions taken to them, system vulnerabilities and flagged files right in your Dashboard.
How to manage autoclean protection
Autoclean protection automatically removes malicious files and can be deactivated using a toggle in the Security tab of the EasyWP Dashboard:
Malicious files are automatically quarantined, and compromised files are automatically cleaned by removing malicious code and restored.
Vulnerable, suspicious files or PUAs are flagged for your review and decision on the necessary actions. These files may pose potential risks but are not classified as high-risk malware like viruses or ransomware:
Potentially Unwanted Applications (PUAs) are software programs that may not be explicitly malicious but could cause unwanted behavior, inconvenience, or pose potential risks to a system or user. They are often bundled with legitimate software or downloaded unknowingly, and while they are not classified as malware, in some cases their presence might be undesirable due to their impact on system performance, security, or user privacy.
Vulnerable files are files that, while not inherently malicious, contain weaknesses or security flaws that could be exploited by attackers to compromise a system, network, or application. These files may serve legitimate purposes but pose risks due to their potential to be leveraged in harmful ways.
Suspicious files are files that exhibit characteristics or behaviors that deviate from typical patterns and raise concerns about their legitimacy or intent but lack conclusive evidence to classify them as malware.
After manually removing PUAs, suspicious files, or vulnerable files, they will be removed from the report during the next scan, which runs automatically two hours after the previous scan is completed.
