Private Email account setup in the Yahoo Mail app
Important: Since May 15, 2024, Yahoo stopped supporting the Basic Authentication method for logging in and will require the use of a new method called OAuth (Open Authentication).
Currently, we have no plans to introduce OAuth to Private Email. Therefore, to ensure uninterrupted access to your mailbox, we recommend switching to other email clients or our webmail interface:
1) Use our Webmail: Access your mailbox securely through our webmail interface. Simply log in at https://privateemail.com using your email credentials.
2) Switch to another Email Client:
- Default email app on your device: free and secure email clients that support IMAP authentication on your iPhone or Android device.
- Outlook: Microsoft Outlook is another alternative that allows secure email management.
Please be aware that if you used POP3 for your Private Email account in Yahoo Mail, you might be unable to access emails anywhere other than Yahoo Mail if they have been deleted from the server, whether you're logged in to Webmail or another email client.
Unfortunately, we cannot consult you further regarding migrating these emails to another email client, if needed. Please seek further assistance with Yahoo support. Feel free to use this link: https://en-global.help.yahoo.com/kb/account.
We’re going to take you through how to set up your Namecheap Private Email mailbox in the Yahoo Mail app.
NOTE: Before setting up in Yahoo, make sure your account is set up properly with the correct DNS records, and that a mailbox is created.
Open Yahoo Mail on your phone or tablet:
To use this app, you’ll need to sign into a Yahoo or Google account first. If you don’t have one, click the "Sign up" text at the bottom and follow the process. If you’re already logged in, proceed to step 3.
Next, you need to add another mailbox to your account. Click on your profile picture to bring up the menu, and choose Add another mailbox:
When it asks you to select the type of mailbox, select Others:
Now, you will be prompted to input your Private Email address and click Next. In this tutorial, we’re using test@nctest.us as an example:
In this step, you’ll need to fill in the server details as on the screenshot. These are the same for all Private Email accounts:
Verify that the server details are filled in correctly, and click Next.
The app will now check your server details. After that, you will need to input your Private Email password:
Now, it should download your messages.
TIP: To speed up loading, you can manually refresh the Inbox by swiping down, or by closing the app and then reopening it.
That's it - your mailbox is ready to use!
Once you’ve successfully added a new mailbox to your Yahoo account in the Yahoo Mail app, you can also send and receive emails with that mailbox in Yahoo! Mail webmail.
