The .ECO top-level domain (TLD) is the ideal choice for websites committed to environmental causes. Trusted by prominent environmental groups, businesses, and brands worldwide, .ECO shows your concern for the well-being of our planet.
For those thinking of registering a .ECO domain, it's important to understand the activation requirements set by the .ECO Registry. After the successful registration process, a .ECO domain will initially have "ServerHold" status. This means that your domain will temporarily not work in browsers, and any connected services will be inactive.
Take these steps to activate the domain name and remove the "ServerHold" status:
1. Activate Your .ECO Profile (Account)
When your .ECO domain name is registered, you’ll receive an email from the .ECO registry with instructions to activate your .ECO profile. This email will come from activate@profiles.eco with the subject "Activate [your domain].ECO", and will ask you to complete your .ECO profile. Additional email reminders are sent in 1, 3, 7, 14 and 30 days after domain registration.
Hit the Activate button in the email, then you’ll receive an email from the registry to confirm your .ECO account is activated.
2. Complete Profile Information in the .ECO account
The following information needs to be completed in the .ECO profile:
- Domain details and the organization type (if applicable);
- Registrant's focus and/or sustainability actions;
- Registrant's location(s);
- Comply with the .ECO eligibility policy;
- Take the .ECO pledge: pledge to support positive change for the planet and to be honest when sharing information on your environmental actions in accordance with the .ECO profile policies.
When the registry accepts the information, they will remove the “ServerHold” status and inform you of the change via email. That will mean that your domain is ready to use.
If a .ECO domain retains its "ServerHold" status for
more than 12 months from the date of registration or activation, due to ECO Profile Policy Sanctions or for other reasons, it could potentially be canceled by the registry.
Please remember that it's important to comply with the
.ECO activation requirements to maintain the status and functionality of your .ECO domain name.
