The .IS country code top-level domain (ccTLD) is an extension representing Iceland.

Basically, everyone in the world can register a .IS domain. The period of registration is one year only. The domain can be renewed right after the registration for one year in one order but no more than 4 years in total. Please note that the period between .IS domain registration and expiration dates cannot exceed 5 years.

The domain registration is not immediate - it takes up to an hour for the domain to appear in your Namecheap account.

Domain contact verification (registration) is required after the registration order is submitted so one can manage the domain properly further.

When a .IS domain is created, ISNIC (.IS Registry) sends the "ISNIC Contact Registration" email to the Registrant email address. You will need to follow the link to register (verify) the contact information (if it’s new) for your .IS domain name within 3 days.

Please note that you will need to log in to your ISNIC account first. You might need to use the "Lost password" form if you've never logged in to ISNIC account before. The Registrant contact NIC-Handle required for login is provided in the email from ISNIC.

Once your domain contact is verified, the domain becomes fully manageable. Please keep in mind that you won't be able to change the domain contact information until the domain is verified.

.IS Registry also has special technical requirements for .IS domains nameservers:

• At least two different nameservers must be specified and the hosts must not resolve to the same IP address.
• The DNS zone should be presetup.
• NS records should have TTL 86400 (24 hours) or more for a domain to be pointed to them.

The domains registered with custom DNS servers which do not meet the Registry requirements will be pointed to Registry parking nameservers.

Domain Privacy cannot be used for .IS domains due to Registry restrictions. However, only the Registrant country is shown in Whois for the Individual registrants and Registrant email and country for the Organizations.
